About Tydra

Tydra is an Australian marine technology business developing innovative solutions for the future of boating and marine transport.

We’re looking for a CAD Designer to develop the models, drawings and design data that turn Tydra’s watercraft concepts into real, buildable products.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving problems, working across disciplines and seeing their designs go from concept to CAD to the workshop and ultimately onto the water.

You’ll thrive here if you take ownership, move quickly, care about the details and enjoy building something new.

What You’ll Do

  • Create detailed, production-ready CAD for hull and deck structures, mechanical systems and powertrain integration
  • Develop and manage assemblies and detailed component designs
  • Produce clear, fully dimensioned manufacturing and supplier drawing packages
  • Develop CAD models and drawings that can be manufactured, fabricated and assembled accurately
  • Maintain CAD standards, templates, naming conventions and revision control
  • Maintain accurate engineering design data, BOMs and mass properties
  • Work closely with engineering, production and suppliers to identify and solve design and manufacturing issues
  • Apply practical design-for-manufacture principles and improve designs before they reach the workshop
  • Support prototype builds directly on the floor and feed learnings back into the CAD
  • Work across mechanical, electrical and structural interfaces to ensure everything fits and works together
  • Help develop scalable CAD and engineering processes as Tydra grows
  • Take designs from early concepts through detailed design, build, testing and refinement

What We’re Looking For

  • 3+ years strong marine industry experience, with a good understanding of boat and watercraft design and construction
  • 3+ years’ experience in CAD, mechanical design or drafting, with experience taking designs into production.
  • Advanced CAD skills (preference is Solidworks or similar) and a strong understanding of mechanical design principles
  • Experience producing detailed manufacturing and fabrication drawings
  • Strong understanding of tolerances, fits, assemblies and design for watercraft manufacture
  • Experience working with complex assemblies and engineering data
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in producing high quality work
  • Comfortable working with incomplete requirements and evolving designs
  • Practical mindset with the ability to solve problems and find solutions
  • Clear communicator who can work closely with engineers, technicians, production teams and suppliers
  • Comfortable being hands-on and supporting builds and prototypes

Desirable

  • Experience with composite marine structures, sheet metal, weldments or fabrication
  • Experience with marine powertrain, battery or electrical integration
  • Experience establishing CAD standards or engineering data systems
  • Experience working in a fast-moving, early-stage engineering environment
  • Experience with other complex engineered products in the EV industry
  • Passion for boating, engineering, electrification and innovation

Why Tydra?

This is an opportunity to be one of the people actually building the product.

You’ll work closely with engineering and production to turn ideas into working watercraft, with the opportunity to see your designs built, tested and on the water.
