About Tydra

Tydra is an Australian marine technology business focused on developing innovative solutions for the future of boating and marine transport.

As we continue to develop our technology and bring new solutions to market, we’re looking for an experienced Marine Electrical Engineer to join our team. This is an opportunity to play a hands-on role in the design, integration and development of marine electrical systems, contributing to the next generation of marine technology.

The Role

This is a hands-on technical role for someone with proven marine electrical experience who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges and turning innovative ideas into practical, reliable solutions.

You’ll work closely with our engineering, design and production teams to develop and integrate electrical systems for marine applications, with a particular focus on power systems, electrical architecture and the evolving technologies driving marine electrification.

Experience with electric propulsion, battery systems and EV technology would be a significant advantage.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, develop and integrate electrical systems for marine vessels and applications.
  • Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules and technical documentation.
  • Specify and integrate electrical components, power distribution systems, charging systems and control equipment.
  • Contribute to the design and integration of battery storage, battery management systems (BMS) and electric propulsion systems.
  • Work with engineering and production teams to ensure electrical systems are practical, reliable and suitable for marine environments.
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems, diagnose faults and develop effective technical solutions.
  • Support the testing, commissioning and validation of electrical systems and components.
  • Ensure designs and installations meet relevant marine electrical standards, safety requirements and regulatory obligations.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, manufacturers and technical partners to select and integrate electrical components.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, product development and the evolution of Tydra’s marine technology.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience working in the marine industry, particularly in marine electrical engineering, vessel electrical systems or marine electrical integration.
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or a relevant electrical engineering qualification.
  • Strong understanding of marine electrical systems, power distribution, wiring, protection systems and electrical safety.
  • Experience reading and developing electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and technical documentation.
  • Practical problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex electrical systems.
  • An understanding of the challenges associated with electrical systems operating in marine environments.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across engineering, design and production teams.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach, with the ability to take ownership and work in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment.

Ideally, You’ll Also Have

  • Experience with electric or hybrid marine propulsion systems.
  • Knowledge of lithium-ion battery technologies, battery management systems (BMS) and high-voltage electrical systems.
  • Experience with EV electrical architectures, power electronics, inverters, DC-DC converters and onboard charging systems.
  • Experience integrating energy storage and power management systems into vessels.
  • Familiarity with marine electrical standards and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with CAD-based electrical design tools and electrical system modelling.
  • Experience in the design, development or manufacture of innovative marine or electric vehicle products.

Why Tydra?

This is an opportunity to join an ambitious Australian business and work on technology that is shaping the future of marine transport.

You’ll have the opportunity to work across design, engineering, prototyping and real-world testing — helping take new ideas from the concept to the water.
