About Tydra

Tydra is an Australian marine technology business focused on developing innovative solutions for the future of boating and marine transport.

We’re looking for a UI/UX Designer & Developer to design and build the onboard interfaces that people will use to operate, monitor and interact with Tydra watercraft.

The Role

This is a hands-on role for someone who can take an idea from concept through design and into a working onboard system.

You’ll work closely with our engineering and technical teams to turn complex systems into simple, intuitive and reliable interfaces for the person operating the watercraft.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and build the onboard user interface used to operate and monitor Tydra watercraft.
  • Translate complex technical systems into simple, intuitive user experiences.
  • Design interfaces for controls, propulsion, battery systems, navigation, monitoring, alerts and other onboard functions.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes and high-fidelity interface designs.
  • Turn designs into working interfaces and interactive prototypes.
  • Develop and maintain a consistent onboard design system and UI components.
  • Work closely with electrical, software and mechanical engineers to integrate the interface with onboard systems.
  • Build and test interfaces using real system data and hardware.
  • Test interfaces in the real-world environment and on the water, refining the experience based on feedback and testing.
  • Consider usability, safety, reliability and clarity in every aspect of the interface.
  • Take ownership of the user experience from initial concept through to implementation and ongoing improvement.

What We’re Looking For

  • 3+ years’ experience across UI/UX design, product design, front-end development or a similar role.
  • Strong UI/UX design skills combined with the ability to build working digital interfaces.
  • A portfolio demonstrating both design and implementation.
  • Strong front-end development skills, including HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • Ability to turn designs into clean, functional and responsive interfaces.
  • Experience working with data-driven or interactive interfaces.
  • Ability to simplify complex technical systems into clear and intuitive user experiences.
  • Strong visual design and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working closely with engineers and technical teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Able to work independently, take ownership and move quickly.
  • Comfortable getting hands-on with hardware, prototypes and on-water testing.

Ideally, You’ll Also Have

  • Experience designing interfaces for vehicles, marine, automotive, industrial or other complex systems.
  • Experience with embedded or touchscreen interfaces.
  • Experience working with real-time data and connected systems.
  • Understanding of controls, monitoring systems or human-machine interfaces (HMI).
  • Experience working with APIs, hardware interfaces or system data.
  • Experience designing for environments where usability, safety and reliability are critical.
  • An interest in marine technology, electrification and the future of boating.

Why Tydra?

This is an opportunity to play a key role in how people experience and operate a new generation of watercraft.

You’ll work across UX, UI, software, hardware and real-world testing, taking ideas from concept through to a working onboard experience — and ultimately, onto the water.
